As you may be aware; STAR Tasmania Inc. and Cosmos are merging as of the 1st July 2015.

Catherine Viney (current CEO of Cosmos) has recently announced that she is heading off to become the State Manager for Baptcare and, as a consequence, will not be contending for the role of CEO of the merged entity. (more…)

Ticket to Work joins National Disability Services

National Disability Services (NDS) is proud to announce that we have partnered with Ticket to Work, a national program which supports young people with disability to successfully transition from school to work.

A unique event was held in Hobart on Friday to mark the commencement of National Families Week

National Families Week commenced on Friday 15th May, and one of the more unique events was held in Hobart, where a team of photographers volunteered their skills to take family portraits of families and family members with a disability.

Thank you to all of the staff that attending the first Whole of STAR Meeting for 2015 held on the 18th March.  Thank you to Jess Biers for being the Master of Ceremonies for the event. Jess presented a slide show on behalf of  the Claremont house that shared with us all the fun activities and achievements that the clients and staff participate in.  Well done Jess you did an amazing job and the presentation was very inspiring.

 

The next Whole of STAR Meeting is on the 10th of June. Respite will be presenting “All about Respite”!!!. This is the last meeting before the 1st July when we join with Cosmos as a shared entity.  We hope to see you all there for the next meeting.

The last staff Induction for 2014 was a success. A comprehensive two day induction to the service was provided to all new employees. The training focused on the following areas.

  • Working with Families
  • History of the disability sector in Tasmania
  • What is challenging behaviour?
  • Mealtime Assistance
  • Mental Health First Aid
  • Epilepsy Education
  • Fires Safety
  • Values and Attitudes in the workplace

Congratulations to all the staff involved. We look forward to having more new staff inducted in the new year.
