Cathie Celebrates 30 Years with Mosaic
This week, Mosaic employee Cathie Moore celebrated her 30th year with Mosaic! Cathie has a long-standing history with Mosaic. Although “only” in her 30th continuous year with the organisation, she first started with COSMOS in 1981 (now the Community Access program area at Mosaic) She then went on to work at Respite when it was run by DHHS (now Mosaic Respite Options in Lutana).
Cathie joined “Little” STAR 30 years ago as a disability support worker, but soon moved into a Program Manager role, opening some of the first SIL houses (then group homes) for people who were moving into the community from Willow Court.
Cathie was a Program Manager for many years (through 2 mergers, including STAR & COSMOS who became Mosaic in 2015) and more recently has moved back to a more hands on role as a team leader and now returned to a disability support worker role (so she can spend less time on admin, more time with her grandson)
Speaking of her experiences, Cathie reflects:
Gosh! I started in 1981 with Cosmos (no role title whatsoever back then!) I did a Social Trainer course at TAFE. Don’t you love the terminology? Class of ‘88.
I worked at Children’s respite with the Government. I had a few years off having children. Then in 1994 I started with Star support services, a brand new service supporting the people who came out of Willow Court and the new concept of ‘group homes’. I was a DSW but quickly became a House Manager (Program Manager) which was a blended role of managing and DSW for most of my years at Star/Mosaic.
Around 25 years doing [the Program Manager role], loved the job, loved the people. I’ve seen so many changes, and then it changed back which is amusing at times. Last few years I have been doing Disability Support Work again, winding down and back with the people. Anyway I have always enjoyed my job with Mosaic but now I’m really enjoying my new grandson. He’s the Light of my life.
